~ These Flutes
are made in the style of the Native American flutes. Basically, that
means the internal "anatomy" of the flute includes two separated air
chambers joined by the carving on top of the flute body. Click on "Flute
Anatomy" to see this unique design feature.
~ The flutes
are made from various woods. The traditional wood is Cedar. These
instruments were all handmade from tree branches or wood found in my
firewood pile. The "Flute Anatomy" link includes pictures of the process
used to make the flutes. The flutes are tuned using a microphone and a
computer software program.
~ The flute played an
important role in Native American culture. It was used in many of the
ceremonies and also as an instrument of courtship. The next
update of this website will include the
"Legend" of the Native American flute explaining the origin of
the flute in that culture.
